About this event

Haunted Village takes place across the 10-acre open-air site at Burnaby Village Museum, with dramatic lighting, a graveyard, circus and shop displays. DJ Drac and dancers will get the dance floor moving. Halloween-themed food and warm beverages are available for purchase at Mai’s Café, which closes at 8:30 pm. No food or drinks are allowed in exhibits. Outside food is permitted elsewhere on site but cannot be taken into the café; benches are available around the village. The carousel will not operate during the event.

The event runs Friday, October 30, from 4 to 9 pm. Advance tickets cost $12 for adults and $7 for children ages 2–12. Tickets purchased on the day cost $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 2–12. Children under 2 are free. Buy tickets: https://purchase.shadboltcentre.com/EventAvailability?EventId=4601. Limited tickets are available at the gates each event night. Credit and debit are accepted; cash is accepted only with exact change. For online ticketing help or to change a ticket’s date or time, call the Shadbolt Box Office at 604-205-3000. A $2 exchange fee applies to each ticket changed.

The event runs rain or shine; dress for the weather. Late arrivals will be admitted if capacity allows. Costumes are encouraged. The lighting is dramatic, but there are no strobe effects. Some areas feature ghosts, skeletons, jack-o’-lanterns, large spiders and costumed mannequins. The displays are designed to be spooky rather than frightening, with no blood, guts or gore.

Trick-or-treating is offered on October 31 only. Pick up a bag and activity card at the gate, then visit all four locations to collect treats and have the card checked at each stop: Carousel (8), Tram Barn (7), General Store, upper area (14), and Indigenous Learning House (24).

Themed displays can be viewed from outside the exhibit buildings; guests cannot enter the buildings. Nearly every facility is wheelchair accessible and stroller friendly, and a paved path connects the buildings. Strollers and wagons are welcome, though they may not fit into every exhibit. Pets are not permitted, except service animals. Prohibited items include skateboards and scooters, bikes, animals and pets except designated working animals, alcohol or drugs, weapons or knives, glass containers, fireworks, laser pointers and musical instruments. The museum is smoke-free; smoking and vaping are not allowed. Burnaby Village Museum reserves the right to deny unsuitable items. Family snapshots are permitted as long as they do not impede other visitors or their experience.

Parking around the museum is limited; transit or rideshare is recommended. Parking is available at the Burnaby Village Parking Lot, City Hall Parking Lot or Deer Lake Beach. The two entrances are the main gate off Canada Way and Sperling Avenue, and the Carousel Gate on Deer Lake Avenue. For inquiries, call 604-297-4565.
