About this event
Know the Score combines musical performances and dialogue about the past, present and future of Western classical music, in partnership with the Vancouver Recital Society. This first lecture features Italian pianist Filippo Gorini and his Sonata for 7 Cities project: a worldwide journey taking Beethoven and Schubert beyond concert halls to disadvantaged communities. He will discuss the people he met and his chosen repertoire. The lecture welcomes established classical-music fans and curious newcomers; no prior experience is required.
Gorini is an acclaimed young pianist, known for Bach, Beethoven and Schubert alongside adventurous programmes involving Stockhausen, Kurtág and commissioned works. He received Italy’s Premio Abbiati in 2022 and the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2020; his three albums have received critical acclaim.
The October 19 lecture runs 3–4 p.m. in the Alice MacKay Room on the lower level of Central Library, 350 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, BC V6B 6B1. Register through the exact library event page. Elevator access is available in the concourse near the bank machine, and designated wheelchair and mobility-device spaces will be provided. Accessibility requests: programs@vpl.ca.
