About this event
Movie Matinees take place in the Boiler House Theatre and feature historical documentaries, Canadian-made films, 20th-century classics and films about Steveston history. The October 19, 2026 screening is Beetlejuice, starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis and Michael Keaton. The theatre is in a historic structure built to house steam boilers that powered salmon-canning machinery from 1894 to 1930. It has since been converted into a theatre that shows educational films.
Screenings are generally held on the third or fourth Monday of each month, during the February 2026 to February 2027 series. The listed time is 2 to 4 pm, with doors opening 15 minutes before the screening; the exact programme length depends on the film. Tickets are $5 each and do not include admission to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery museum, which must be purchased separately. Museum admission is always free for visitors under 18. Advance tickets are available through the Steveston Community Centre registration portal, and day-of tickets can be purchased at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site. The theatre is wheelchair accessible. The programme is developed for Steveston’s seniors community and people aged 55 and over, but all ages are welcome.
Upcoming screenings are posted after the previous month’s programme has taken place. Listed dates include November 16, 2026, for Empire of the Sun and December 21, 2026, for Titanic (1997). 2027 screening dates are to be determined.
