The two-day Day of the Dead celebration uses an artisan market, music and folklore to remember loved ones who have died and reflect on their lives and legacies. Hands-on arts and crafts workshops connect participants with traditions passed through generations, inviting cross-generational community gathering.
The festival takes place at Brentwood Plaza, in partnership with The Amazing Brentwood and supported by Tourism Burnaby. Address: 4567 Lougheed Highway, Burnaby, V5C 3Z6. Entry is by donation; workshop tickets are separate. October 24 workshops: papel picado at 12:30 p.m. (CAD 10); floral arrangements at 2 p.m. (CAD 10); sugar-skull decorating at 3:30 p.m. for two hours (CAD 20); Catrina lanterns at 5 p.m. (CAD 15). October 25: Catrina makeup and symbolism at noon for two hours (CAD 20); Catrina masks at 2:30 p.m. (CAD 10); remembrance storytelling at 4 p.m. (CAD 5); create an ofrenda altar at 5:10 p.m. (CAD 5).
