About this event

Novelist Tayari Jones will join moderator Kimberly Bain for a Vancouver Writers Fest conversation about Kin and her wider body of work.

Kin follows two friends as they navigate the complexities of life in the American South. The novel is an Oprah’s Book Club selection.

Jones’s books have been praised by Oprah and Barack Obama and appeared on Goodreads’ Most Popular list. TIME named her among its 100 Most Influential People of 2026, recognizing moving novels in the tradition of civil-rights organizers and the late-20th-century Black women’s literary renaissance.

Standard admission is CAD 28; youth under 25 pay CAD 15; member and senior 65+ tickets are CAD 25.20. Current Showpass totals include taxes and fees at those amounts. No exchanges or refunds except if the event is cancelled; check your order carefully. Avoid perfume, cologne and other strongly scented products. For access needs or box-office questions, call 778-658-0462; Showpass technical support is 1-844-307-7469.

The October 20 session runs 8:30–10 pm. Babes in arms are not permitted at this regular, non-youth event. Late entry is not guaranteed, and missing the event through lateness does not qualify for a refund. Proof of age may be requested for age-discounted tickets. Venue: Performance Works, 1218 Cartwright Street, Vancouver, V6H 3R8.
