It runs from 10 am to 3:30 pm on October 31, 2026, at the SFU Surrey Engineering Building (SRYE). Pre-event information will be emailed on Friday, October 30 at 12 pm. Tickets for each grade group are CAD 15.00, plus a CAD 0.00 ticket fee. Registration: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/haunting-hallows-sfu-surrey-oct-31-grades-k-7-tickets-2003588191215.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 participants explore creatures and legends of Halloween night. They learn why bats are the only mammals that can truly fly, what an animal’s teeth reveal about its diet, the jobs blood does in the body, and how plants grow, including why garlic is said to keep vampires away. They make a bat glider, monster teeth, a batch of spooky fake blood and a garlic planter to take home.

Grades 2–4 investigate glowing light and invisible “ghostly” forces. They learn how light and energy make things glow, what happens to polymers when heated, and how scientists explain movement that may seem paranormal. Projects include glow-in-the-dark paint, spooky shrinky dink charms and a Pepper’s Ghost illusion that makes a figure appear to float in mid-air.

Grades 5–7 explore the anatomy of a scare: how bones, muscles and tendons work together, how the brain functions, and why bodies jump when startled. They apply what they learn by building a working model arm, designing a contraption to protect a “brain” from impact, and making a pop-up card designed to startle whoever opens it.
