About this event
Vancouver Independent Music Centre Society and the Raagaverse Cultural Society present Raagaverse + Strings. The concert reimagines Raagaverse’s music through the sound world of a string quartet, exploring the connections among Hindustani classical traditions, jazz harmony and improvisation.
The project grew from “Naina” on Raagaverse’s debut album, Jaya, where Western cinematic string writing met Hindustani melodic language and jazz quartet textures. The program includes new arrangements of selected works from Jaya and new compositions intended for a forthcoming second release, all created collaboratively by Noah and Shruti.
Led by vocalist Shruti Ramani, Raagaverse is a 2025 Juno nominee for Best Jazz Album of the Year (Group). Ramani trained in Hindustani music with Dr. Ritu Johri in Mumbai and studied jazz at Capilano University. The event begins at 7:30 pm.
The October 15 concert runs 7:30–9:30 p.m. at ANNEX; doors open at 6:30 p.m. General tickets are $33.68 ($30 plus $3.68 in fees); concession tickets for low-income music lovers are $21.02 ($18 plus $3.02 in fees). Check Showpass for current availability.
The theatre opens at 7 pm. Tickets are non-refundable. Performers: Shruti Ramani (vocals), Noah Franche-Nolan (piano), James Meger (bass), Trent Otter (drums), Meredith Bates and Joshua Zubot (violins), Parmela Attariwala (viola) and Marina Hasselberg (cello).
