About this event
Britannia: Monsters, Machines & Mischief! runs over two Halloween weekends, October 17 and 18 and October 24 and 25. At Britannia Mine Museum, families can explore mining through colourful monster machines, hands-on activities and live science demonstrations. Discover the stories behind equipment from towering mining trucks to the historic mine, and how machines have powered mining at Britannia over the years.
Special Halloween underground train tours follow a rescue crew investigating mysterious machine malfunctions deep in the mine tunnel. Live demonstrations, hands-on challenges and problem-solving activities show how miners used compressed air, transportation systems, machinery and teamwork to keep Britannia operating. The BOOM! special effects show takes place inside the historic Mill No. 3 building.
Britannia’s “mad scientists” turn ordinary pumpkins into exploding spectacles, and kids and families can make magnetic slime. The Machine Shop features six monster machines inspired by real mining equipment. Learn about their jobs moving earth and hauling giant rocks, and how they helped power mining at Britannia and continue to shape the industry.
Visitors can also hunt for treasures at the gold panning pavilion and explore exhibits in the Museum’s Britannia Story building and the Beaty Lundin visitor centre. The occurrence runs from 9 am to 4:30 pm. For information, call 604.896.2233.
