Iraqi Dance Workshop in Vancouver - Choreography

About this event

In this afternoon workshop, dancer and instructor Aiva Yu will teach her complete Iraqi choreography to Rumman (Pomegranate). Participants will work through a guided warm-up, a step-by-step breakdown of the dance, Iraqi movement vocabulary and styling, rhythm and musical interpretation, transitions and dynamics, then practise and refine the choreography with music.

Aiva lived in the UAE for many years and developed her knowledge through study with international masters and women from local Iraqi communities. Her style honours Gulf folkloric traditions while bringing technical precision, powerful energy and contemporary stage presence to the movement. The morning technique workshop and afternoon choreography workshop require separate registration; dancers may attend either or both. The afternoon session runs from 1 to 4 pm on November 1, 2026, at SPARK88 Movement Studio, steps from Metrotown SkyTrain Station. Paid parking is available inside the building. Free street parking may be available nearby; check posted signs and time limits. Additional parking is available at Metropolis at Metrotown, a short walk away. Wear comfortable dance clothing and bring water. Dance barefoot or in clean indoor shoes only. The base price is CAD 98.00 plus a CAD 7.95 ticket fee.
