About this event
This librarian-led program discusses AI Snake Oil by computer scientists Arvind Narayanan and Sayash Kapoor. Using the book as a starting point, participants will discuss critical issues surrounding AI, share their experiences using it and consider its potential impacts on society. The discussion examines how AI works and why it often does not, where it may be useful or harmful, and when AI hype may be used to sell products that do not work.
Pick up a copy of AI Snake Oil at the service desk at McGill. Print copies are limited, and a limited number of e-book copies are also available. This session is Tuesday, October 20 at 6 pm at McGill.
This October 20 session runs 6–7:30 p.m. in the McGill Community Room. Registration is required online, at any Burnaby Public Library location, or by calling 604-436-5400. Registration requires a name and either a phone number or email address. The form allows one accompanying guest. The event listing does not publish an admission fee.
