Vivek Shraya and Kai Cheng Thom celebrate the release of their new fiction: Shraya’s The Hystericals and Thom’s The Shapeshifter’s Guide To Gym Class. The novels explore frightening and fantastical dystopian and utopian worlds that are not far removed from the present.
The event celebrates trans and queer communities and welcomes allies and book lovers. The authors’ new novels address prejudice, mental health and violence; attendees are encouraged to care for themselves and others as needed. No graphic descriptions of violence or injury will be included.
Vancouver Writers Fest presents the event on Oct. 21, 2026, at 8 p.m. Standard tickets are CAD 28 including GST and service fees; the event ends at 9:30 pm.
Presented in partnership with Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Members and seniors aged 65+ pay CAD 25.20; tickets for people under 25 cost CAD 15. Prices include GST and service fees, and age verification may be required. This regular festival event does not admit babies carried in arms. Tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged except if the event is cancelled. Late entry is not guaranteed and latecomers receive no refund. Please avoid strongly scented products.
