About this event
Ukrainian singer and bandura player Maryna Krut blends traditional folk with modern indie and pop sounds, using her expressive voice and distinctive playing to present Ukrainian musical culture. The bandura has 65 strings and combines qualities of a harp and guitar.
Born in western Ukraine, she began playing at eight, initially studying traditional music. By 15 she was exploring a more modern, jazz-influenced approach with soul-pop vocals. Her performances contribute to a revival of Ukrainian culture, described by the organizer as a form of resistance in the confrontation with Russia. She also performs for Ukrainian military personnel in combat zones, supporting those risking their lives for their country’s independence and freedom.
October 22, 2026, 7:30–9:30 p.m., CapU Centre for Performing Arts, 2055 Purcell Way, North Vancouver, BC V7J 3H5. CAD 43 including applicable charges, through the official CapU box office.
