About this event
Award-winning author Chantel Acevedo, who was born in Miami to Cuban parents, will discuss Cages, described as her most personal and heartfelt book. The novel follows Felix across three decades: as a zookeeper in Cuba during the missile crisis, an exile in 1960s London, and a dying man in AIDS-era Miami.
The book explores longing, deception, survival and reconciliation, while portraying the life of a gay man in Fidel Castro’s Cuba, where homosexuality was labelled “counterrevolutionary.” Acevedo will be joined in conversation by Maria Reva.
