Lam Tung Pang: Out of This World

About this event

Lam Tung Pang’s first solo exhibition in Canada runs October 24, 2026 through January 3, 2027 at Richmond Art Gallery. Drawings, paintings, slide projections and video form an immersive installation exploring migration, belonging, memory and home. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday–Sunday noon–5 p.m., with statutory holidays closed. Admission is by donation. The exhibition date range does not imply overnight opening.

The installation layers empty domestic rooms, staircases, windows and furniture with Canadian road-trip landscapes and outer space. Its hand-drawn astronaut stands in for Lam as he moves between countries, cultures and languages, carrying instability, nostalgia, adventure and discovery. Light and shadow bring analog warmth and digital immediacy together, inviting visitors to reflect on familiarity, the unknown and a dwelling that has not yet become home. The exhibition spans the three-and-a-half years since Lam moved from Hong Kong to Richmond, reflecting the deconstruction and reconstruction of his sense of self. His artistic practice has taken him through Hong Kong, London, Beijing and Vancouver. Personal memories and national narratives shape the landscape imagery; the astronaut carries disillusionment and melancholy alongside nostalgia, transformation, curiosity and discovery.
