About this event
This monthly movie series presents selections from Kanopy for in-library viewing. This session features Portrait of a Lady on Fire.
Set in Brittany, France, in 1760, the film follows Marianne, a painter commissioned to paint the wedding portrait of Héloïse, a young woman who has just left the convent. As Héloïse is reluctant to become a bride, Marianne observes her by day and secretly paints her at night. Intimacy and attraction develop as they share Héloïse’s first and last moments of freedom, while Marianne paints the portrait that will end them.
