About this event
Create Makerspace presents an eight-week paddle-carving course led by Squamish Nation carver Art Harry. Participants will make their own traditional cedar canoe paddle while learning about the cultural and historical significance of canoe carving within the Squamish Nation.
The course covers shaping, carving and finishing cedar, alongside stories, traditions and practices that have shaped the art form over generations. It begins Monday, October 19, and continues every Monday for eight weeks. Contact Create Makerspace at 604.898.6767 for details.
The course meets 6–9 p.m. in the Create Makerspace Wood shop at #1-39449 Queens Way. Standard admission is CAD 205 before tax. Two eligible accessible places are CAD 102 using code AccessiblePaddleCarving26 at checkout. The course is currently full; a waiting list is available.
The final session is December 7. No prerequisites are required; beginners are welcome. The Audain Foundation subsidizes general admission. The reduced rate is for participants who consider themselves eligible for the accessible places; contact the organizer about eligibility.
