About this event

Dan Werb, Andrew Westoll and Neil Griffin will discuss three nonfiction works about changing relationships between humans and animals, and perspectives on climate change beyond human exceptionalism. Werb’s Our Wild Familiars looks at wild animals adapting to urban spaces; Westoll’s Born to Be Wild considers the practical and ethical questions facing modern zoos; and Griffin’s Endings traces a global history of extinction.

Laura Lynch moderates. ASL interpretation will be provided.

Presented by Vancouver Writers Fest on Oct. 21, 2026, at 8 p.m. Vancouver local time. Standard tickets are CAD 28 including GST and service fees; the event ends at 9:30 pm.

The discussion also considers wild animals adapting to cities after losing their natural habitats, including crows and raccoons, and the climate emergency’s impact on biodiversity.
