About this event
“Britannia: Monsters, Machines & Mischief!” takes place over two Halloween weekends on October 17 and 18, and October 24 and 25. Families can explore the world of mining through colourful monster machines, hands-on activities and live science demonstrations. This occurrence runs on October 18 from 9 am to 4:30 pm at Britannia Mine Museum.
Guests can join special Halloween-themed underground train tours as a rescue crew investigates mysterious machine malfunctions in the mine tunnel. Live demonstrations, hands-on challenges and problem-solving activities show how mining equipment worked and how miners used compressed air, transportation systems, machinery and teamwork to keep Britannia operating. A BOOM! special effects show takes place inside the historic Mill No. 3 building.
Britannia’s “mad scientists” demonstrate exploding pumpkins, and children and families can make magnetic slime. Six monster machines inspired by real mining equipment are on display in the Machine Shop, with stories about how they moved earth and hauled rocks and their role in mining. Visitors can also hunt for treasures at the gold panning pavilion and see exhibits in the Museum’s Britannia Story building and the Beaty Lundin visitor centre.
