About this event
Discover a community ofrenda honouring loved ones through photographs, flowers, candles and Día de los Muertos traditions.
October 14–November 2, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., at Ocean Art Works, 1531 Johnston Street, Granville Island. Altar-making workshops are planned for October 31–November 1; check the organizer for session times and admission details.
Guided tours are also offered for school groups, primarily secondary students. The altar-making workshops explain the ancestral meanings of the elements used in an ofrenda.
The installation celebrates a pre-Hispanic tradition from Mexico and other Latin American countries, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Visitors from around the world and Metro Vancouver school groups are welcome.
