About this event
Trans Joy honours transgender and gender-nonconforming people and their contributions and resilience. Activities include mini speed friending, playwright Karter Masuhara discussing the development of Do You Understand Me Now?, and short film screenings, with more to be announced.
Karter is a Vancouver-based trans/non-binary artist, producer and arts manager. Their award-winning short film Where to Piss has entered festivals internationally, and their self-produced play Before They Cut Down Our Tree appeared at the 2023 Vancouver Fringe Festival. They co-produced Dark Room (2025), are co-writing Baby Cafe (2026), and are developing a multilingual solo work for a development presentation at Place des Arts. They have worked with Vancouver Asian Canadian Theatre and the frank theatre and hold a screenwriting master’s degree from Leeds Beckett University.
Presented with Playwrights Theatre Centre, this registered event welcomes the 2STGD community, friends, partners and allies. It is an anti-oppressive, trans-positive, scent-reduced and accessible safer space.
