The novel follows sisters Lyn and June as their estranged mother, Renee, is exposed for falsely presenting herself as an Indigenous artist, bringing family lies and unresolved childhood trauma to the surface.
The in-person meeting is in the library’s third-floor program room.
The sisters are Indigenous: Lyn copes with a break-up through pottery and raising Willow; June, a Métis Studies professor, moves from Vancouver back to Winnipeg with her husband Sigh and dog to be closer to family. Their estranged white mother works under the name Raven Bearclaw, winning acclaim for a fraudulent new take on Woodlands painting. Her exposure brings online backlash and resurfaces the sisters' childhood trauma. The October 21 session is 7–8:30 pm; admission is free.
