Zen monk and business leader Kiyohiko Shimazu leads a two-day program. The November 1 session at UBC Robson Square features Japanese classical dance, a talk on Zen in daily life, an introduction to seated meditation and Q&A. About this event
Zen monk and business leader Kiyohiko Shimazu is visiting from Japan for a two-day program. Zen is presented as practical training to settle the mind and live with more clarity, rather than as a religion. No prior experience is needed.
Day One is Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 2 to 5 pm, with doors opening at 1:30 pm, at the C300 Theatre (lower level), UBC Robson Square. The program includes a Japanese classical dance (Nihon Buyo) performance, a talk about bringing Zen into daily life and relationships, a short introduction to seated meditation (zazen), sharing and Q&A.
Day Two is Monday, November 2, from 6 to 8 pm, with doors opening at 5:30 pm, followed by networking, at COZY LAB (202-1128 West Broadway, Vancouver). This small-group session for about 30 people focuses on Zen and leadership. It includes a seminar, zazen and kyosaku experience (open to anyone who wishes to try), discussion and Q&A, followed by a chance to speak one-on-one with Mr. Shimazu over light refreshments. Both days are presented in Japanese with consecutive English interpretation.
Day One only is $10 this week (regularly $15); two tickets for Day One are $20 when bringing a friend. Day Two only is $20 this week (regularly $30). The event is co-hosted by the Japan Canada Chamber of Commerce (JCCOC) and Shimars Next (Shimars Inc.), in cooperation with GIFTS AND THINGS.
