About this event
This community meeting will discuss the impact of the Vancouver Aquatic Centre (VAC) and Britannia Pool closures and give the community a chance to speak before the new Park Board’s first vote. The agenda includes a briefing on the VAC after the Court of Appeal order, the effect of the Britannia closure on the east side, an open floor for swimmers, parents, coaches and neighbours, and what happens at the November 2 board meeting. All seven commissioners-elect have been invited.
The organizers are asking the new Park Board to pass an urgent motion at its November 2 inaugural meeting to pause VAC demolition until the full engineering, design and procurement record is reviewed, and to publish a plan for swimmers, clubs and programs while two public pools are closed at once. The Court of Appeal stopped the VAC demolition until November 3 so the new board could decide its future; demolition can resume on November 3. Britannia Pool also closes on the day the new board takes office. The organizers say Hillcrest, Vancouver’s only other indoor 50-metre pool, was operating at 113% capacity before either closure, while swim clubs, lessons, seniors’ programs and public swim are being squeezed into fewer lanes.
The meeting takes place from 12 to 2 pm on November 1, 2026. It is hosted by Protecting Our Vancouver Aquatic Centre Society (POVACS).
