Secret Ingredients

About this event

Secret Ingredients is a playful experimental theatre performance created by Richmond-based artist Keely Rois O’Brien and presented for a live audience in Studio B. It uses cake to explore the quirks, nuances, joy and heartache of human relationships.

Before the performance, members of the public are invited to consider messages they find too difficult to express directly to someone in their life and submit one through an online form. One submission will be translated into a cake, delivered and incorporated into the performance. Flavours are paired with the message: dark chocolate for embarrassment, citrus zest for annoyance and tart cherry jam for grief. Each cake delivery brings a new story, emotion and flavour.

The event runs October 14 to 17 at Gateway Theatre. Website: gatewaytheatre.com/events/secret-ingredients. Trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=OZajvJdM1P8.

Performances begin at 7:30 pm on October 14, 15 and 16, and at 1:30 pm on October 17. Each runs approximately 70 minutes without an intermission and is for ages 13 and older. All four performances are sold out; contact the theatre to join the waitlist.

Regular tickets are CAD 35. Eligible students and arts workers may obtain CAD 25 day-of-performance rush tickets. Students need valid secondary or post-secondary student identification; arts workers need proof accepted by the theatre.
