Trinity Western University human kinetics professor Neil Turner will make his second run for a Langley Township school board seat this fall. He is running with the new Langley Strong slate, after running as an independent in 2022. Turner has three adult children and six grandchildren. His work at the university means he meets recent graduates of local schools each fall when they arrive there.

“I want to give back, and I want to represent the families who want more out of their child’s education,” Turner said in a statement announcing his candidacy. He said that was not a complaint about Langley schools. Rather, most parents he speaks with have little idea about their child’s school and no clear idea where to take their concerns.

Turner said the district should be able to show families what is working in schools and what is not. If elected as a trustee, he said he would bring his training in performance analysis to the role: measure what is happening, look honestly at what the numbers show, and then change what the district is doing.

He noted that some students go to university, some pursue trades training and others move straight into work. The Langley school board serves all of Langley, with five trustees elected in the Township and two in Langley City. Turner will vie for one of the Township seats.
