Nearly 600 Western Community College students graduate in Surrey
Western Community College held its 2026 convocation in Surrey on Aug. 21, with close to 600 graduates preparing for careers in several fields.

Close to 600 Western Community College graduates took part in the school’s 2026 convocation ceremony Aug. 21 at Surrey’s Bell Performing Arts Centre. More than 1,000 people, including family, friends, politicians and college staff, attended.
The North Surrey private post-secondary institution says its programs are designed around industry and workforce needs. Graduates are heading into health care, hospitality, early childhood education and other fields; the class also included the first graduate of the college’s Flight Instructor Rating program.
Hospitality management student Michelle Mathews and early childhood education student Ximena Rodriguez were the class valedictorians. President Gurpal Dhaliwal said the graduates leave with skills intended to help them contribute to their professions and communities.
The college opened a flagship campus last December in City Centre 4 on 137 Street. Student housing with 810 beds is under construction in the City Centre 5 tower and is expected to be managed by UniLodge Canada by fall 2028.
