Surrey council candidate Margaret Mubanda sets out priorities for families and community services
The Surrey Centre social worker and foster parent says Imagine Surrey would pursue three new community centres, childcare in city facilities and mental health crisis teams.

Margaret Mubanda is running with Imagine Surrey. A Surrey Centre social worker, foster parent and grandmother, she has received B.C.’s Medal of Good Citizenship for her community service.
Her top three priorities are putting children, youth and families at the centre of every decision; building three new community centres with childcare included; and creating mental health crisis teams so people can get the right help.
On community centres, Mubanda said children can be shut out of swimming lessons because every session is full, while the nearest centre is overcrowded. As a social worker and foster parent, she said she has watched families wait for help that never arrives. Imagine Surrey would acquire land for three new centres, with construction to begin by 2030. Mubanda said part of the cost would be covered by avoiding overpayment for arena land. The plan would also build childcare into city facilities, giving shift workers somewhere to turn.
“I’ve opened my home to children who needed one,” she said. “I’ll open City Hall to the families it keeps forgetting.” Voters can reach her at imaginesurrey.ca, margaret@imaginesurrey.ca, on X at @Mubanda, or through Facebook and Instagram under Margaret Mubanda.
