Five candidates are running to represent the Surrey South riding in the upcoming provincial election. After the nomination filing deadline on Saturday, Oct. 3, the candidates who filed paperwork with Elections BC were CentreBC leader Elenore Sturko; White Rock Mayor Megan Knight, running for the Conservative Party of BC; BC NDP candidate Parik Tahlan; BC Green Party candidate Bill McConnell; and Denis R Hurtubise, listed as unaffiliated on the Elections BC website. The OneBC Party website, however, identifies Hurtubise as its Surrey South candidate.

Former Surrey South MLA Brent Chapman, who had been listed as the OneBC candidate for South Surrey before Saturday, is absent from Elections BC’s candidate list. So is his wife, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, who stepped down as Conservative Party of BC leader on Sept. 20 after several MLAs left the party or were asked to leave.

Advance voting for the provincial election runs Oct. 16 to 21. Final voting day is Saturday, Oct. 24, one week after civic election day on Saturday, Oct. 17. Knight had planned to run for mayor of White Rock but was able to withdraw from the municipal race. The two mayoral candidates remaining on the civic ballot are Susan Bains and Chris Shields.
