Totest Aleng: Indigenous Learning House at 13723 Crescent Rd. in Surrey will host the final session in its Saturday series on Sept. 26, from noon to 4 p.m. The public is invited to learn about the orange T-shirt as a symbol of Indigenous resilience.

Participants can write what “every child matters” means to them on a paper T-shirt and hang it in the pavilion to inspire others. Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Phyllis Webstad’s account of having her orange shirt taken away on her first day at an Indian residential school. The day elevates survivors’ voices and invites people across Canada to pursue truth and reconciliation together.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is marked annually on Sept. 30. More information is available at orangeshirtday.org.
