MLA calls for review after multiple Surrey police collisions
Six people have died or been seriously injured in collisions involving Surrey Police Service over 12 months, prompting an MLA to seek a provincial review.

Six people have died or been seriously injured in collisions involving Surrey Police Service during the past 12 months, prompting Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Elenore Sturko to call for a provincial review.
The latest incident occurred at 3 a.m. on Labour Day, when police said they were trying to stop a black Chevrolet Avalanche near King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue. The vehicles collided, and investigators said the truck driver did not stop. The truck later struck a concrete SkyTrain barrier, leaving a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries. The IIO is investigating.
Sturko said the province should conduct its own review in addition to the IIO investigations to determine whether further safety improvements are needed for officers and the public. The Ministry of Public Safety and the Solicitor General said it is awaiting the IIO outcomes before deciding whether further steps are necessary.
