Delta opens registration for its 2026 Planting Our Roots free tree project
Delta is offering 250 free trees through its Planting Our Roots project. Each household may submit one entry by Thursday, September 24, at 11:59 p.m.; previous recipients from the program’s last two seasons are ineligible.
Registration is open for the City of Delta’s Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project, which has 250 trees available. Residents can complete the form at https://www.delta.ca/Plantingourroots by Thursday, September 24, at 11:59 p.m. to enter.
Each household may submit one entry for a tree. Trees will be delivered to successful recipients’ homes in time for the fall planting season. The form offers 10 varieties, including two native selections: garry oak and vine maple. Applicants are asked to rank their top five preferences. Assignments depend on those rankings and tree availability. Residents who received a tree through the project in either of the previous two program seasons are not eligible this season.
The city asks recipients to share a photo of their tree in its new home after planting, using #PlantingOurRoots and tagging @CityofDeltaBC on Instagram or Facebook. Recipients will be notified about two weeks after registration closes.
Before digging, recipients should contact BC 1 Call at https://www.bc1c.ca/ to identify underground utilities. They should also use the free DeltaMap tool at https://www.delta.ca/about-delta/deltamap to check property lines and ensure the planting location is within their private property.
Residents looking for planting advice can use the City of Delta’s planting guides and tree care resources. The city says caring for the trees will help grow Delta’s urban canopy and support a more resilient natural environment.
