VICTORIA — British Columbia NDP Leader David Eby is appealing to Green voters as the snap election scheduled for Oct. 24 enters its final week. He says voters should think carefully about their choices as they prepare to cast their ballots.

Eby says he respects Green Leader Emily Lowan, but she will not become premier and votes for her party could result in a Conservative government being elected. He says Green votes made the difference between a Conservative and a New Democrat being elected in 11 ridings in the last election, including North Island, where he was speaking at an unrelated campaign announcement in Campbell River, B.C.

Eby says neither his party nor he has been perfect, and many people are frustrated that an election is being held at this time. He says the election is about the province’s future, rather than the small differences between the New Democrats and Greens, who share a common vision in many areas.

“I’m asking Green voters to think very carefully about the kind of province we all want, because when voters who share that vision work together, we win,” Eby says.

Asked whether his appeal to Green voters acknowledged that his party was trailing, Eby said the only poll that matters takes place on election day. “I have a great deal of respect for their leader, and she is not going to be premier next week,” he said. “The damage a Conservative government would do would last for generations, and some of it would be impossible to undo.”
