Taxi impounded for excessive speed after passenger’s vehicle was seized for the same reason on Sea to Sky Highway
A Squamish taxi driver was ticketed and had his vehicle impounded for seven days after police say it was travelling 133 km/h in an 80-km/h zone.

BC Highway Patrol is reminding drivers that they must obey the law and drive safely, whether they are behind the wheel for work or recreation. The reminder follows an incident over the weekend on the Sea to Sky Highway near Porteau Cove.
Police say that at about 11 a.m. Sunday, a BCHP motorcycle officer clocked a white Toyota Corolla travelling 133 km/h in an 80-km/h zone. The Corolla was operating as a taxi, and its back-seat passenger had just had their own vehicle impounded for excessive speed.
Professional drivers are not exempt from the law and should know better, Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said. The 65-year-old Squamish taxi driver received an excessive-speed ticket, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
McLaughlin said passengers have the right to ask drivers to follow the law. Anyone uncomfortable with a taxi or ride-share driver speeding or driving while distracted should speak up, he said.
BCHP says it impounded 21 vehicles for excessive speed on the Sea to Sky Highway over the Labour Day long weekend.
