B.C. Conservatives name candidates in Richmond’s four provincial ridings, while two NDP hopefuls come forward
The B.C. Conservatives have named candidates in all four Richmond ridings. The NDP has announced Linda Li in Richmond-Bridgeport, and Elections BC lists Henry Yao in Richmond Centre.

The B.C. Conservatives have named their candidates in Richmond’s four provincial ridings. So far, two NDP candidates have publicly put their names forward. The NDP announced Linda Li will run in Richmond-Bridgeport, the same riding she contested in 2024. Henry Yao is listed on the Elections BC website as the NDP candidate in Richmond Centre. He held the riding for one term when it was called Richmond South Centre. Yao had planned to run for mayor in the municipal election but withdrew at the last minute, just before the provincial election was announced.
Two incumbent B.C. Conservative MLAs are running: Steve Kooner in Richmond-Queensborough and Teresa Wat in Richmond-Bridgeport. Sasha Peters is the party’s candidate in Richmond Centre, and Gordon Zhang is running in Richmond-Steveston. Kelly Greene, the BC NDP MLA for Richmond-Steveston for two terms, is not seeking re-election.
Lisa Phillips, who is running for city council under the Richmond Conservative banner in the municipal election, is also the B.C. Conservatives’ candidate in Vancouver South-Granville. Her nomination papers for the Richmond municipal election say she lives in Vancouver. Another municipal candidate is also listed in the provincial election: Lawrence Chen, who is running for school trustee in both Richmond and Sechelt, is the CanWest party’s candidate in Richmond Centre. The provincial election is on Oct. 24.
