B.C. driver helps save man from knife-wielding suspect at Surrey park
A 37-year-old man faces charges after police say he struck a victim’s truck and chased the man with a knife at Redwood Park in South Surrey.

A 37-year-old man is facing charges after an alleged assault at Redwood Park in South Surrey on Wednesday, where a driver helped a man being chased by a suspect allegedly armed with a knife.
Surrey police say the incident began just before 5 p.m. The suspect allegedly drove a Jeep Wrangler into the victim’s Ford pickup truck. The victim then tried to run away, and the suspect allegedly chased him with a knife.
Local photographer Robin Nuber recorded video of the incident. The driver filming the encounter was able to help the victim until officers arrived.
Nuber told Global News that he was filming, reversing his vehicle and trying to unlock it when the suspect opened his door. He said the suspect then moved to the front of his vehicle, prompting him to reverse while the man held on.
Surrey Police Service Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said the video shows why the suspect is facing numerous charges. He said the concern in the videographer’s voice reflects the seriousness of what was unfolding, an encounter not normally seen while driving through a South Surrey park.
Richard Mark James Evoy is charged with offences including assault with a weapon and criminal harassment. Police believe the suspect and victim know each other.
