Richmond expands MyPermit online permitting services
Richmond has added more building-permit applications to MyPermit and plans a further online permitting release in November.

The City of Richmond is expanding its MyPermit digital permitting service, allowing residents, businesses and industry to apply online for building and development permits. Added to the MyRichmond platform in 2023, the portal has processed more than 2,340 applications online.
In 2026, 72 per cent of sprinkler permit applications and 53 per cent of gas permit applications were submitted online. With 24/7 self-service available, 23 per cent of online permit applications were submitted outside City Hall operating hours.
On Sept. 21, 2026, MyPermit added building permit applications for single-family homes, small-scale multi-unit housing, and additions and alterations across commercial, office and industrial building types. Mayor Malcolm Brodie said the service is intended to improve application quality at intake and make services more accessible online.
A further release planned for November will add online development permit and subdivision applications, along with building permit applications for new commercial, industrial and multi-family construction. The expansion supports the City’s housing priorities and is backed by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund. More information is available at richmond.ca/MyPermit .
