Surrey couple marks 80 years of marriage
Harbans Singh Malhi, 98, and Basant Kaur Malhi, 97, married in Punjab in 1946 and have marked their 80th anniversary.

Surrey residents Harbans Singh Malhi, 98, and Basant Kaur Malhi, 97, have marked 80 years of marriage. The couple married in Punjab, India, in the summer of 1946.
They moved to Port Alberni in the early 1960s with their five children and spent most of their working lives as blueberry farmers. They are now retired but still tend a garden, according to their granddaughter, Remneek Sahota.
The family includes five children, 12 grandchildren, including three who have died, and 16 great-grandchildren. Sahota said the couple remain largely independent, mobile and mentally sharp, and continue to live alone by choice.
She said their long relationship has endured illness, health and everything in between, and described their bond and the life they have built as inspiring.
