The Carnival of Giving raised $131,288 for Richmond Hospital during a two-day event, surpassing its original $100,000 fundraising goal. This year’s proceeds will support the Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Power Up Campaign, which will help the Yurkovich Family Pavilion add advanced medical equipment and technology. The campaign will also support emergency, surgical and critical care services, as well as the needs of patients and families.

The event was held Sept. 12 and 13 at Lansdowne Centre. It was organized by Cheryl Kwok Notary Public, Hanabi Events and Win Lui Group, and presented by GSB & Associates Luxury Homes. More than 5,000 people attended the free, family-friendly event, which featured more than 40 participating local businesses and organizations, mechanical games and rides, interactive activities, health and wellness experiences, food and live entertainment.

“The success of this initiative shows what we can accomplish when everyone contributes in their own way,” said co-organizer Win Lui. In a news release, Kwok said a simple idea to give back grew into a charity movement that exceeded what organizers first imagined. Mo said they wanted to show that giving back could be joyful and bring families, businesses and the community together.

Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Coun. Alexa Loo, Richmond Centre–Marpole MP Chak Au and Richmond Hospital Foundation Chief Philanthropy Officer Spencer Gail attended. Before the event, additional sponsors and donors made direct donations to the Richmond Hospital Foundation. Local businesses also organized five charity sales to support the fundraiser. Organizers thanked everyone who took part and supported the event.
