Coquitlam’s 2026 general local election will let residents have a say in decisions affecting daily life, including roads, parks and recreation, neighbourhood planning and essential services. General voting day is Saturday, Oct. 17. Any of the community’s 23 voting locations can be used, and all will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The city does not issue “Where to Vote” cards. A map is available at coquitlam.ca/elections under “Voting Locations.”

Advance voting runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on these dates: Monday, Oct. 5, at Town Centre Park Community Centre (1207 Pinetree Way); Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Centennial Pavilion (620 Poirier Street); Thursday, Oct. 8, at Town Centre Park Community Centre; Saturday, Oct. 10, at Town Centre Park Community Centre, Centennial Pavilion and Victoria Community Hall (3435 Victoria Drive); and Tuesday, Oct. 13, and Thursday, Oct. 15, at Centennial Pavilion.

For the first time, eligible voters can apply to vote by mail. Applications for a ballot to be mailed out are due Monday, Oct. 5. After that, mail ballots must be picked up at Elections Headquarters at Coquitlam City Hall (3000 Guildford Way). Apply at coquitlam.ca/elections under “Mail Ballot Voting.”

Voters must bring at least two documents that together prove their identity and place of residence. At least one document must include their signature. Examples include a BC Care Card, BC driver’s licence, birth certificate or a property tax notice issued by the City of Coquitlam. More examples and other voter eligibility requirements are listed at coquitlam.ca/elections under “Voter Information.”

The election will fill one mayor’s seat, eight councillor seats and four School Board trustee seats for School District 43 (Coquitlam – Area 1). Candidate information is at coquitlam.ca/candidates. Residents can follow election updates by subscribing to Election News, following the city on social media or visiting coquitlam.ca/elections.

A provincial election has also been called for Saturday, Oct. 24. Eligible voters will elect a Member of the Legislative Assembly for their riding. Campaigns for both levels of government will run at the same time in the coming weeks, and provincial advance voting will overlap with Coquitlam’s general voting day on Oct. 17. The elections have different candidates, voting locations and voting days. Eligible voters can vote at any location for the local election; Elections BC will send “Where to Vote” cards to registered voters for the provincial election.
