A section of Highway 99 in South Surrey was closed in both directions Friday evening after a crash involving a semi-truck and trailer, a bus and multiple vehicles, local police said. The Surrey Police Service said the crash happened just east of the Highway 99 and Highway 91 interchange. Firefighters and B.C. Emergency Health Services paramedics were at the scene shortly after 5:30 p.m.
About two hours later, the Surrey Police Service said one person had been hospitalized with minor injuries and no one was seriously injured. Sgt. Lindsey Houghton said in a statement that police and traffic control were working to clear a significant backup of vehicles along the highways. Tow trucks were making their way to vehicles that could not be driven, and the roadway was expected to remain closed for a few hours.
CTV said it had contacted B.C. Emergency Health Services for more information about the incident.
