Metro Vancouver chief administrative officer Jerry Dobrovolny to leave organization
Metro Vancouver’s board is transitioning its executive leadership as Jerry Dobrovolny departs. Heather McNell will serve as acting chief administrative officer and commissioner while a permanent replacement is sought.

Metro Vancouver’s Board of Directors is transitioning its executive leadership, with chief administrative officer and commissioner Jerry Dobrovolny leaving the organization.
Board chair Mike Hurley said Friday evening that the change comes as the regional district prepares for the next municipal election and continues governance reform. The board considers this the appropriate time to transition leadership and position Metro Vancouver for its next chapter, Hurley said, adding that it has reached an agreement with Dobrovolny on the transition.
Dobrovolny joined Metro Vancouver in 2019 and led the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery period. During his tenure, Metro Vancouver completed numerous large-scale infrastructure projects across the region.
The board said Dobrovolny oversaw about 300 concurrent projects and worked with municipal, provincial and federal governments on regional priorities. Heather McNell, Metro Vancouver’s deputy chief administrative officer for policy and planning, has been appointed acting chief administrative officer and commissioner during the transition. Metro Vancouver has not announced a timeline for selecting a permanent replacement.
