SD35 Community Spotlight highlights June 2026 school-year achievements
Langley School District's year-end roundup covers consultation, school planning, student achievements, accessibility work and staff recognition.
As the school year closes, Langley School District is reflecting on events, stories and achievements across the district in its June Community Spotlight. Superintendent Mal Gill has also issued a year-end message as families prepare for summer.
The district completed its 2026-27 budget consultation this spring with input from students, staff and families. In May, it updated Willoughby Slope catchment boundaries ahead of a new middle and secondary school opening in September 2027. An April announcement of a classroom addition at R.E. Mountain Secondary will add 300 secondary seats in Willoughby Slope.
Other highlights include Feeding Futures, the I.D.E.A. Summit, where elementary and middle-school students marketed creations and pitched local business leaders, and Brookswood Secondary's weekly Thinking Thursdays numeracy program of brain teasers and puzzles.
The district celebrated Indigenous student award recipients and graduates, known as Golden Eagles, at May's Aboriginal Achievement Awards. Josette Dandurand Elementary marked its opening, while National AccessAbility Week highlighted staff work on accessible parking stalls, playgrounds and sensory rooms.
The IDEA X Challenge brought secondary teams together to design AI solutions for $10,000 in scholarships. Long-serving employees were honoured at the annual District Retirement and Service Awards, and the roundup also links to Langley Advance Times coverage of student and graduate achievements and student entrepreneurs.
