Elections BC approves petition seeking repeal of DRIPA
A petition seeking to repeal B.C.’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act has been approved for the province’s initiative process, according to Conservative MLA Harman Bhangu.

Elections BC has approved a petition seeking to repeal British Columbia’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, known as DRIPA, according to BC Conservative MLA Harman Bhangu.
Bhangu, who represents Langley-Abbotsford, said the approval allows supporters to use the province’s initiative petition process to challenge the legislation.
For the proposal to proceed to consideration by the Legislative Assembly, organizers must collect signatures from at least 10 per cent of registered voters in each of B.C.’s 93 electoral districts. The campaign is scheduled to begin Oct. 26, with signatures due to Elections BC by Jan. 25, 2027.
Bhangu criticized the NDP government’s handling of the act. BC Conservative Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay said she supports the petition campaign and encouraged eligible British Columbians to sign it.
