Two pedestrians die after a vehicle collision at Tsawwassen Mills

A vehicle collision in the Tsawwassen Mills parking lot on Tsawwassen First Nation land left two pedestrians dead and two others struck, according to Delta police. The incident happened at about 10:25 a.m. on Sept. 30. The driver apparently experienced a medical incident, and emergency health services were treating the pedestrians who were struck. The public was asked to avoid the area.

The incident prompted a nearby Truth and Reconciliation Day event to end early. Some social media users initially speculated that it was an attack targeting people taking part in the walk. Delta police said the incident was unrelated to the walk and that there was no ongoing risk to public safety.

Many people first learned about the incident through the Alertable app. Emergency Info BC also shared information, and the app described the situation as a “civil emergency.” People in the area reported seeing a large emergency response, including multiple ambulances and a helicopter.

Tsawwassen First Nation asked people outside the area to stay away and encouraged people to make a plan to check in on family, friends and vulnerable neighbours. The First Nation said it would not provide more details out of respect for families and ongoing response efforts, and that it would share further information when appropriate. It thanked the Delta Police Department, emergency responders and community members who assisted. Anyone with information or dashcam footage was asked to call 604-946-4411.
