Richmond RCMP issued more than 1,011 traffic violations in July
Richmond RCMP say targeted July enforcement resulted in more than 1,011 Motor Vehicle Act violations and charges, including cases of excessive speeding.

Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety Unit issued more than 1,011 Motor Vehicle Act violations and charges during targeted enforcement across the city in July. Operations focused on speeding, distracted driving, HOV-lane compliance, construction zones, prohibited driving and commercial-vehicle safety.
The monthly figures included 167 driver’s-licence infractions, 148 distracted-driving offences and 24 impaired-driving incidents involving drugs or alcohol.
Police said several excessive-speed cases led to immediate vehicle impoundments. They included a driver recorded at 108 km/h in a 50-km/h zone on Westminster Highway, another at 145 km/h in an 80-km/h zone on Highway 91, and a vehicle observed travelling above 200 km/h on Highway 99.
The unit also joined a commercial-vehicle inspection initiative that identified worn tires, unsecured cargo, defective lights and improper trailer connections. A work van with a modified makeshift seatbelt assembly was removed from service and towed for repairs.
Officers conducted e-scooter and cyclist safety education and carried out enforcement in Steveston, where about 20 speeding violations were recorded. Residents can report ongoing traffic concerns through the City of Richmond and Richmond RCMP.
