Surrey church congregation moves prayer service to parking lot after fire
A fire on Aug. 14 caused significant damage to Surrey Alliance Church’s sanctuary, prompting a parking-lot prayer service the following Sunday.

A fire caused significant damage to Surrey Alliance Church on Aug. 14, with flames tearing through the south wall and roof of the sanctuary at 13474 96 Ave.
In a social-media post the following afternoon, the church thanked Surrey Fire Department and Surrey Police Service for responding and caring for the building. The church said pastors Mike Knott and Nick Parker would lead a special prayer service in the parking lot on Sunday, Aug. 15, and asked attendees to bring lawn chairs if possible.
The church also said 96 Ave Kids would show a movie downstairs in the Fireside Room during the service. Surrey Alliance Church says its history in central Surrey dates to 1960. The Now-Leader said it had sought further details from church staff.
