RCMP Musical Ride concludes 2026 tour in Langley

The RCMP Musical Ride concluded its 2026 tour with a weekend of final performances at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, where the stands were full. Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom said the tour reserves its final summer shows for Langley because it is one of the best arenas.

Thousands of civilian spectators and senior RCMP officers attended Saturday afternoon's performance in the main Tbird arena. Led by officer in charge Sgt. Marie-Helene Bernie, the riders and horses performed intricate precision drills set to music. Selections included Bachman-Turner Overdrive's “Takin’ Care Of Business” and Brett Kissel's “Let Your Horses Run.”

Before the riders entered the arena, the E Division Pipe Band marched and performed with Celtic dancers. Saturday's show supported the Boys and Girls Club of Langley, while Sunday's show supported the Matheson Family Foundation, which assists youth sports, bursaries, arts, healthcare and social services.

The Ride toured B.C. and Ontario this year and is scheduled to perform in Saskatchewan and the Atlantic provinces next year. Its roots date to 1886, when the North-West Mounted Police established its first riding school at Depot in Regina, where RCMP officers train. All RCMP officers were required to take equestrian training until 1966; now it is required only for members assigned to the Musical Ride.

RCMP members must serve at least two years before applying to join the Ride, which is based in Ottawa. After training, members are posted to the Ride for three tour years.
