Richmond among B.C. cities receiving intersection safety camera upgrades
All 140 of B.C.’s aging intersection safety cameras are being replaced by spring 2027, including nine in Richmond and 46 in Vancouver.

ICBC is replacing all 140 of B.C.’s intersection safety cameras as the aging units reach the end of their working life. The replacement cameras, supplied, installed and maintained by Jenoptik Canada, will have higher resolution and similar enforcement and data capabilities to the existing cameras.
Nine cameras in Richmond and 46 in Vancouver are included in the project. Installation has begun and will proceed in phases until spring 2027. Existing cameras will continue operating during the work, while about 90 locations will require minor road or sidewalk work for new poles and wiring.
The cameras record drivers who run red lights, and 35 of the 140 also record speeding drivers. The program has operated since 1999 through a partnership among the province, ICBC and police; speeding enforcement was added to 35 cameras in 2019. Attorney General and minister responsible for ICBC Niki Sharma said the modernization will support the program’s work to reduce dangerous driving and prevent crashes.
