Eligible Canadians to receive government benefit payments this week
Canada Disability Benefit payments are due Sept. 17 and Canada Child Benefit payments Sept. 18, with eligibility and application details available for people not yet receiving them.

Eligible Canadians are set to receive government benefit payments on different days this week. Canada Disability Benefit payments are scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17, and Canada Child Benefit payments for Friday, Sept. 18.
The Canada Disability Benefit provides financial assistance to Canadians aged 18 to 64 who live with a disability. Payments begin in the month after an application is approved. Service Canada has sent eligible people invitation letters containing a unique six-digit code and instructions for applying.
People who did not receive a letter may still apply if they have a spouse or common-law partner and both have filed their 2025 federal income tax returns. Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, temporary residents who have lived in Canada throughout the previous 18 months, protected persons, or people registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act. Canadian residents aged 18 to 64 who have already been approved for the Disability Tax Credit may also apply.
The benefit amount is based on factors including family net income. From July 2026 to June 2027, the maximum monthly payment is $204.20, calculated using adjusted family net income from the 2025 federal income tax return. Applicants may receive retroactive payments for up to 24 months from the date the government receives an application, but not for eligible months before June 2025.
People receiving the Canada Disability Benefit could also qualify for a one-time $150 payment to cover the cost of obtaining the medical certificate required for the Disability Tax Credit.
The Canada Child Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment for eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18. Payment amounts depend on family net income, the number of children in care and their ages.
The annual maximum payment for each child under six has risen from $7,997 to $8,157. For children aged six to 17, the annual maximum has increased from $6,748 to $6,883 per child. The base monthly benefit is $679.75 for a child under six and $573.58 for a child aged six to 17.
Families caring for children under 18 with a severe and prolonged impairment in physical or mental functions may also receive up to $290 a month for each child eligible for the tax-free Child Disability Benefit.
