Surrey mayoral candidate Brenda Locke outlines priorities for another term
Locke says her Surrey Connect team would continue investing in public safety, housing and community facilities while keeping property taxes low and city spending accountable.

Brenda Locke has lived in Surrey with her family for more than 40 years. She describes herself as a strong advocate for residents, working to secure what they need and deliver results. Her three priorities are government transparency and accountability, putting Surrey residents first, and public safety. The safety pledge includes hiring 560 public safety personnel. Locke says her team has invested in roads, parks, recreation, housing and economic opportunities since 2022, with more work ahead.
Over the next four years, Locke says Surrey Connect would continue advancing community facilities, including ice sheets in Cloverdale and Grandview, the Newton Community Centre, and the City Centre Arena and entertainment complex. The team would also continue improving parks and athletic fields across Surrey.
Asked about extortion, gang violence and other safety concerns, Locke says the team has invested in policing and public safety over the past four years and would keep investing in police and the resources they need to combat extortion, gangs and organized crime. Plans include a new 15-acre public safety training campus in Anniedale-Tynehead, with police dog training, ballistics facilities, drone technology and a dedicated police shooting range. The team also plans to build combined police and fire stations, bringing public safety services together under one roof.
On affordability, Locke says Surrey Connect would keep property taxes low, spend responsibly and ensure taxpayers receive value for their money. The team would continue reducing red tape so more homes can be built faster, while supporting housing and infrastructure for families, seniors and young people. Locke says every City Hall dollar should deliver a clear benefit to residents, and that the team would continue responsible investment, eliminate waste and maintain transparent budgets.
